Commodore

Hello everyone and welcome to the first issue of The Bow Wave coming out from your new Board of Directors.  First of all, let me take this opportunity to congratulate your new Board of Directors.  Some of us have switched positions this year from previous responsibilities and some have decided to continue on.  Some are joining us for the first time and others are returning for another term.  I would like to say welcome one and all and once again would like to offer my congratulations to all Members of the Board and I am truly looking forward to a successful year.

We will have a full agenda to get started on this year with some needed changes that previous boards and AGM's have identified.  We will need to  bring them to completion and of course take on needed additional programs and projects in support of improving our club.  All of which we will be sharing information with everyone on an ongoing basis through our monthly communications and meeting minutes so stay tuned and keep yourself up to date with all the goings on.  It's important to you and your club.

Looking forward to seeing everyone on Sunday December 2 at the Wine and Cheese Party that Alison is putting together.  Its a great opportunity to catch up and share a few stories.  Please come out and enjoy and don't forget to put your support behind Covenant House again this year.  It too is very important.

For those who cannot attend on Sunday, Diane and I would like to take this opportunity to wish you and your families a very special Christmas Season and a very Happy New Year.

All the best and see you soon.

Ken Daisley
Commodore

Dan Peel

Vice Commodore

I look forward to serving you again this year as the Vice Commodore.  This year in the yard we will be laying out and building the sea container into a storage shed and work shop, adjusting the mast crane, searching for a replacement for the fork lift and looking for a safe portable solution for the kids’ play area.  If you see items out there that may fit the bill please forward them to me.  I would also like to remind everyone of the usual winter protocol:

  • Check your cradle pads regularly
  • Ensure your ladder is locked to your cradles when not in use
  • Clearly identify your car when parked in our lot
  • Unplug your boat when not aboard
  • Report any damage to winter covers or property immediately.

I look forward to seeing many of you at the Wine and Cheese.  Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas from the Peel Family.

Greg Shears

Rear Commodore

Not a lot happening right now.
The docks and equipment are now in the state of hibernation. A few projects planned for the spring to insure another great season.
Hope everyone gets out for the wine and cheese party.
Seasons greetings to everyone.

Colin Smith

Secretary

The Grinch will arrive by end of first week with 2019 Summer invoices..

Secondly, I will have the November financials up on the members site on Monday/Tuesday.  This will not have budget figures yet, as the board will work on that over the winter.

SOS...on regalia ...looking for someone to help Robi and I with the program.  Must like sales and hearing complaints from people!

Wishing you and your family a very joyous holiday season.

Be safe..be careful shovelling snow ...otherwise ho ho ho becomes oh oh oh!

Phil Dunk

House Director

First I would like to extend a warm Christmas seasons greetings to all the club members. I am looking forward to working with the new executives in the new year. It will be a challenge following Chris Guth and keep the club clean and running smoothly as he did during this last year.

At the AGM it was announced that we would be looking at renovating the washrooms. At this time we are looking at several options from a complete make over to simple cosmetic reno. First we will access the scope of the job and find out the condition of the existing services and then work on the design. This will take about one month. Sometime in the near future we will present a comprehensive plan to the club members and have them vote on the direction that the club should go. I would like to ask the membership if they have any trade skills and would like to get hours please contact me. We need people that can do demolition, drywall, tile and or do wall papering.

I should mention at this time regardless of what the outcome is there are some issues that need to be dealt with during the winter. The floor in the men’s washroom needs to be replaced and should be done during the winter so it would not interfere with the club activities during the sailing season. We will keep you informed as we move forward.

Site maintenance: Chris has gone over the work sheet with me and suggested some changes that we will be looking at.

If any of you have any questions or would like to give me your ideas please feel free to contact me.

That’s about it for now. Have a great winter and keep safe.

Ken Chumik

Membership Director

Thanks to you all for my re election as your membership director for the 2019 Season.  I have a number of applicants for membership to interview over the winter months.  I will start the interview process once the board establishes club needs and guidelines for the season.

We have  two senior members that have indicated they will be leaving the club at this time.  Steven Kennedy has resigned his senior membership and has asked to remain as an associate.  He is still very interested in racing as crew this coming year.  Arnaud L'Huillier and his wife  will be returning back home Switzerland sometime this summer.

Again, thank you for your support.

Ken Chumik - Membership

Lee Silver

Communications Director

It's an honour to serve you as the new Director of Communications. I'm excited for the road ahead. I have a vision of how AYC could utilize technology to organize and share data related to the club and I've already started to implement some of those ideas. Please feel free to contact me regarding all club matters. If I don't see you at the Wine and Cheese Party, have a great holiday season and a Happy New Year.
